Phoenix man gets 5 years for taking daughter to Mexico

Published January 08, 2015

A 33-year-old Phoenix man is going to prison for taking his young daughter to Mexico.

A Maricopa County Superior Court spokeswoman says Judge Teresa Sanders on Tuesday sentenced Brent Anderson to five years in prison for attempted kidnapping.

The judge also sentenced Anderson to four years of probation for custodial interference.

Anderson pleaded guilty to both charges on Feb. 13.

Authorities say Anderson and the toddler's mother had joint custody of their daughter but that Anderson failed to appear at a designated place and time to return the child to the mother on Feb. 22, 2012.

Authorities say the mother and daughter were reunited after being separated for 45 days.

Police tracked Anderson and the child to the small Mexican town of Pueblo Nuevo, north of Mazatlan.
