Too many landslide zones in Snohomish County force council to reconsider proposed building ban

Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

The Snohomish County Council backed away from a proposal Monday to ban new home construction within a half-mile of known landslide hazards.

Council Chairman Dave Somers said such a building ban would have made most of the unincorporated areas of the county off-limits.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/yBOLhR ) the council will take at least two more weeks to decide whether to make emergency land use changes in response to the March 22 Oso mudslide.

The bodies of 41 victims have been recovered; two people are still listed as missing.
