Jerry Sandusky posted bail on Thursday, and was conditionally released from jail a day after he was arrested on additional charges of sexual abuse.
Sandusky was quiet and cooperative during his stay at the Centre County Correctional Facility in Bellefonte, Pa., where he was one of the roughly 250 being held. He had his own cell for the night, a standard procedure for new inmates, Warden Edward DeSabato told the Associated Press.
Court records Thursday morning show that the former Penn State football coach used $200,000 in real estate holdings and a $50,000 certified check provided by his wife Dorothy. He was released from the jail and left in a grey sedan that was part of a three-car convoy. He was staring straight ahead and clutching a manila envelope during the short ride.He was brought back to his home in nearby State College and ignored questions from reporters as he went inside.
The conditions of his release will keep him confined to his home and he must wear an electronic anklet for monitoring. He is only allowed to leave to see his lawyer, for medical appointments, and church services. He is also forbidden from having contact with any witnesses or victims.
Sandusky was arrested for a second time after 12 new charges were filed after a grand jury released testimony from two new alleged victims.
The new charges are on top of 40 counts charged against him last month for sexually abusing eight other boys over 15 years.
Sandusky is due in court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday.
