A 3-year-old boy died on Saturday night after he fell from a children’s roller coaster at an indoor family entertainment center in Norridge, Ill. a suburb of Chicago.
Jayson Dansby, 3, fell from the ride at Go Bananas and suffered multiple injuries when he was struck by a roller coaster car, reported MyFoxChicago.
“It’s just a very sad tragedy,’’ said Go Bananas owner Jerrold Marks, who was reached by telephone late Sunday morning, told MyFoxChicago. “My heart goes out to the family. I can’t imagine what they are going through.”
The boy was sitting near the front of the Python Pit roller coaster at the Go Bananas amusement park when he got underneath the ride's safety bar, Norridge Police Chief James Jobe said. He suffered head injuries in what Jobe described as "a tragic accident."
Police said this is the first time an incident occurred at Go Bananas, which has been in business for six years, according to the report.
Dansby was on the ride with his twin brother when he fell out of the coaster while it was moving, Jobe said. The Cook County medical examiner's office said the boy died at the park. Police said a state inspector was at the scene.
Marks declined to say how the incident could have happened, saying he would leave it up to the proper authorities who are in a “better position’’ to answer those questions.
“We are going to cooperate 100% through the investigation,’’ Marks told MyFoxChicago.
