A religious symbol has appeared in a forest in County Donegal, Northern Ireland, captivating both locals and visitors.
People flying into nearby Derry airport began noticing the approximately 328-foot-long and 230-foot-wide cross as it can be seen better from a birds-eye view.

Local news station ITV investigated to uncover the origins of the cross and found that a man named Liam Emmery had planted it years prior.

But Emmery never lived to see the recognition that his labor of love would accrue. The local resident died six years ago, and even his wife had forgotten that he had planted it.
“If he was here, we'd all have heard about it because he'd be so proud,” Norma Emmery told ITV. “He just loved things to be perfect, and I think the Celtic cross is perfect for him.”
County Donegal is situated on the Atlantic coast of Northern Ireland, and the cross is not far from the U.K.'s border with the Republic of Ireland.
