The “friendly skies” just got a tad bit friendlier.
United Airlines announced Wednesday that as of February 2016, complimentary snacks will be offered in Economy Class on all North American and Latin flights, including the Caribbean and flights between Honolulu and Guam.
Those snacks were cut off in 2008 by United and Continental followed suit in 2011 after the airlines merged. And previously, flights within North America and the Caribbean only offered snacks for purchase.
Jimmy Samartzis, United's vice president of food services, said the airline is "refocusing on the big and little things that we know matter to our customers."
Passengers on flights departing before 9:45 a.m., will be offered a complimentary morning Stroopwafel, a Dutch, caramel-filled waffle. Flights taking off after 9:45 a.m. will offer an Asian-style snack mix or a zesty-ranch mix of mini pretzel sticks, Cajun corn sticks and ranch soy nuts.
Some domestic airlines such as Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines Jet Blue already offer complimentary snacks on U.S. flights.
The airline has made plans to overhaul its coffee option, bringing in Illycaffe’s scuro dark roast on all flights starting next summer.
If the complementary coffee and treats just aren’t enough to sustain you during your flight, United's website says, “Depending on length and destination of your flight, you can also choose from a variety of snacks and fresh meals for sale.”
