Anna, Elsa and Olaf—stars of 2013’s “Frozen,” the highest grossing animated film of all time—are set to appear in their very own Disney attraction early next year.
Frozen Ever After, a boat ride debuting at Epcot, will feature animatronic characters from the wildly popular movie in a brand new adventure.
“What we try to do is take you back to the movie without retelling that story,” Kathy Mangum, the lead Imagineer fn the attraction, told the Orlando Sentinel.
Guests will journey through the kingdom of Arendelle by boat as characters recreate scenes from the movie. During the ride, they’ll be taken to a winter in summer celebration during which Queen Elsa uses magical powers to make it snow on a sunny day.
Fans can expect to hear hit songs from the movie including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go.”
According to the Sentinel, the animatronic figures will appear more lifelife with the use of “rear-projection technology,” which is a similar technology to that used on the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Florida’s Magic Kingdom and Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Anaheim’s Disney California Adventure.
The new Frozen attraction is replacing the long-running Maelstrom log ride in the Norway pavilion at Epcot. The new ride uses the existing Viking ships and water flume with renovated scenes from the make-believe kingdom of Arendelle.
“Frozen” continues to draw big crowds for Disney visitors. Guests have reported waiting up to five hours to greet Anna and Elsa in Orlando. The company is also expanding its “Frozen” offerings across the country with a movie-themed musical planned for Disney California Adventure in 2016 and internationally with an Arendelle-themed land expected to open at Tokyo DisneySea in 2017 or 2018.
