Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

The Truth Is Out There?

If the truth is out there a bipartisan group of former senators and House members is going after it.

Six former lawmakers will preside over Capitol Hill-style hearings on the existence of extra-terrestrial life, if it is here and whether the government is hiding it.

The "Citizen Hearing on Disclosure" will involve 30 hours of testimony from dozens of researchers and other witnesses.

The former lawmakers will each be paid $20,000 plus expenses.

They are not required to believe that we are not alone in order to participate.

Getting a Clue

Question -- what's an eight letter word for a Wisconsin mom who saw the definition of conservatism on her child's crossword puzzle homework assignment?

Answer -- outraged.

An eighth-grade social studies class was given this clue for two down -- quote -- "The political belief of preserving traditional moral values by restricting personal freedoms." Conservatism.

Liberalism's definition, by contrast -- quote -- "The political belief of equality and personal freedom for everyone, often changing the current system to increase government protection for civil liberties.

The outraged mom, described the school superintendent as very sympathetic.

The administrator issued a statement saying she regrets any disapproval of this particular assignment.

Stealing Spree

The career criminal who stole President Obama's teleprompter will have plenty of time to work on his own public speaking skills.

Eric Brown of Richmond, Virginia has been sentenced to seven years in prison. He admitted stealing several trucks, including an unmarked vehicle, loaded with said teleprompter, speakers, a laptop, and podiums with presidential seals.

The truck was recovered empty.

Several of the items later turned up at pawn shops.
