Arizona attorney general proposes arming certain staff

A Modest Proposal

Arizona could soon have guns in schools. The state's attorney general has proposed a program to train one person at each school to use a firearm. In addition to training, the school principal or designated staff member would have access to a secured firearm on school grounds.

The A.G. said, "This proposal is analogous to arming pilots on planes." The Democratic minority leader of the statehouse fired back calling it simply, "a horrible, horrible idea."

The plan would be voluntary.

Law of Attraction

The Iowa Supreme Court has ruled that a dentist was within his legal rights to fire a female employee he -- and his wife -- considered a "irresistible attraction."

The dentist's lawyer called it a victory for family values, saying the move was made in the interest of saving the dentist's marriage not because the assistant was a female. The all-male Supreme Court agreed, noting the dismissal may be unfair but was not unlawful because it was motivated by feelings and emotions, not gender.

The defendant's lawyer criticized the ruling: "These judges sent a message to Iowa women that they don't think men can be held responsible for their sexual desires... if they get out of hand, then the women can be legally fired for it."

Step One

Alcoholics Anonymous requires in its 12-step process the recognition of a higher power and that power might have been in play in Vermont.

State Police say a man faces drunken driving charges after driving on what he thought was a parking lot.

Turns out, the man was on the Wilson House lawn -- that is the birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous co- founder Bill Wilson. The house was built in 1852 and hosts several AA meetings a week.

The driver is due in court in two weeks.
