Grapevine: Mainstream media want to move on from Libya?

Going Public

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa is pushing back against strong claims that his committee put a Libyan woman at risk by releasing unclassified documents showing serious diplomatic security failures in Benghazi.

Ranking member, Democrat Dutch Ruppersberger says the move -- quote -- "appears to put politics ahead of the security of our nation."

Senator John Kerry said it was -- quote -- "irresponsible and inexcusable, and perhaps worst of all it was entirely avoidable."

But Issa says the activist in question was hosted by the State Department in Seattle last year.

And he also pointed to a publicly available web video, criticizing the transitional government, in which the woman can be seen wearing a State Department badge and taking part in a State Department news conference.

Movin' On Up

Media watchdog site Newsbusters notes a trio of mainstream media personalities apparently wants to move on from the Libya scandal despite the murders of the American ambassador and three others there.

Time Magazine's Joe Klein told "Face the Nation" viewers this matter -- quote -- "has been like the October mirage -- it really isn't an issue."

New York Times foreign affairs columnist Tom Friedman on "Meet the Press" said -- quote -- "To me -- this is an utterly contrived story."

And on ABC "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos argued -- quote -- "Hasn't the White House been relatively transparent?"

Local Color

And finally, Lynn University's oldest student -- Jack Slotnick, who's about to turn 87-years-old -- will be at tonight's debate.

The university's president actually gave up his own ticket for the World War II veteran.

He has big plans after graduation this year.

Slotnick told us today -- quote -- "I want to go to the V.A. and work with vets who have P.T.S.D.  [post-traumatic stress disorder] No one can speak better to a soldier than another soldier."

Jack told us he's very excited about tonight's debate, but would not give us any hint as to which candidate might get his vote.
