Judge for Yourself

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor thinks female judicial candidates are held to a different standard than their male counterparts.

The Atlantic reports Sotomayor told law students -- quote -- "there were private questions I was offended by. I was convinced they were not asking those questions of the male applicants."

She also noted that her federal court male colleagues who are also single frequently bring their dates to public affairs but -- quote -- "I knew if I did the same thing, my morals would be questioned."

Loose Lips

An NPR executive has been caught on tape criticizing conservatives and calling members of the Tea Party racists.

The recording was released by conservative filmmaker James O'Keefe of ACORN video fame. It shows NPR's Foundation President Ron Schiller and a colleague meeting with two people posing as members of a fictitious Muslim organization to discuss a potential $5 million donation to NPR.

Schiller is heard saying Tea Party people are not -- quote -- "just Islamaphobic, but really xenophobic" and "sort of white, middle-America gun toting" and "seriously racist racist people."

NPR says it is appalled by Schiller's remarks, which are contrary to what it stands for. Schiller had already planned to leave the organization in May, but has now been placed on administrative leave.

Kids These Days

And finally, debt commission co-chairman Alan Simpson was on Fox News Monday talking about Social Security. The 80-year old says young people who say they aren't counting on Social Security when they are older are kidding themselves. And seniors who oppose reform for fear of losing their own benefits are also not thinking clearly.

And by doing nothing -- If they care at all about their children or grandchildren, and sometimes I doubt that, I think, you know, grandchildren now don't write a thank-you for the Christmas presents, they're walking on their pants with the cap on backwards listening to the Enema Man and Snoopy Snoopy Poop Dogg, and they don't like them!"
