And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
The Third Degree
A principal at a British school is feeling the metaphorical heat after turning off the actual heat on a day when temperatures sank to just above free zing.
Why did he do it? He says, to save the planet.
A teacher told The Sun newspaper the idea was beyond stupid, adding -- quote -- "I've never worked in such cold. I'm all for saving the planet but this was barbaric."
The principal hailed the experiment as successful and vowed to stage regular eco-days.
Quote -- "We cut the heat to see if we can lower our carbon footprint. We let pupils wear as many jumpers as they liked."
Have a Little Faith
The religious faiths of Republican presidential candidates are getting a lot of mainstream media attention this year.
The Media Research Center says ABC, CBS and NBC mentioned the faiths of GOP candidates seven times more in the first 10 months of 2011 than they addressed the faiths of Democratic candidates in the first 10 months of 2007.
Dog Days
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says that White House Press Secretary Jay Carney took a question about bestiality too lightly.
In Monday's press briefing, Carney was asked about a provision in a defense authorization bill repealing a ban on the practice.
Quote --"Does the commander-in-chief approve or disapprove of bestiality in our armed forces?"
Carney did not answer, and when asked again, said -- quote -- "Let's get to something more serious."
PETA wrote to Carney -- quote -- "We were upset to note that you flippantly addressed the recently approved repeal of the military ban on bestiality. With respect, this is no laughing matter."
Book Smart
And finally, a south of the border "oops."
Mexico's leading presidential contender floundered for about four minutes when asked at a book fair to name three books that have influenced him.
Enrique Pena Nieto was able to correctly name only one, eventually saying he has read parts of the Bible.
