And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...

Lost in Translation?

Vice President Joe Biden is taking criticism for suggesting he does not object to China's one-child policy.

While speaking to students in southwestern China Sunday, Biden said -- quote -- "Your policy has been one which I fully understand -- I'm not second-guessing -- of one child per family. The result being that you're in a position where one wage earner will be taking care of four retired people.

Not sustainable."

However, pro-life groups and some Republicans are faulting the vice president for condoning a policy that they say has resulted in countless abortions and forced sterilizations.

House Speaker John Boehner says the policy -- quote -- "...should not be condoned by any American official."

Biden's office released a statement, this afternoon, saying the administration opposes -- quote -- "...all aspects of China's coercive birth limitation policies...[The vice president] was arguing against the One Child Policy."

New York State of Mind

Republicans in New York's Ninth Congressional District are trying to mount an upset in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Democrat Anthony Weiner who resigned after a sex scandal.

In a recent Siena College poll, Democrat David Weprin was just six points ahead of Republican challenger Bob Turner.

Don't Turn the Page

And finally, Politico reports nearly 30 lawmakers have written to congressional leaders in hopes of saving the House Page Program.

The lawmakers argue expenses could be trimmed and emphasize the tradition of the program that dates back to 1774.
