Flip phones may no longer have the traction they once had, but with Samsung's numerous flip phone offerings, there still exists a demand for them in some parts of the world. LG hopes to satisfy that demand with its own flip phone offering, the Gentle, Technodify reports.
TGhe Gentle draws its name from its large T9 keypad and leather-like material on the outside, which gives it ease of access for those with either poor eyesight or large hands and fingers. Powering the flip phone is a 1.1GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor paired with 1GB of RAM. Even among so-called smart flip phones, the Gentle does lag behind a bit, since Samsung's upcoming beast of a flip phone is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 808, the same processor found in the LG G4.
Elsewhere, you'll find a 3.2-inch capacitive touch-screen display with a modest resolution of 480 x 320. Although not evident in the Gentle's press image, there is a 5-megapixel camera on the back, while a 0.3-megapixel camera sits above the display. Keeping the lights on is the integrated 1,700mAh battery, while the Gentle comes with your standard array of wireless connectivity, such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, and GPS.
The measly 4GB of internal storage can be expanded with the MicroSD card slot, while the Gentle seems to run a modified version of Android 5.1 Lollipop. Finally, pressing the dedicated "Q" button shows you the most frequently used apps, though you'll also find your standard Android software buttons below the hinge.
If putting one foot in the past and one foot in the present excites you, the Gentle will be available in South Korea on July 29 for the equivalent of $171. There's no word on whether the Gentle will make its way to other regions, though we wouldn't hold our breath.
