Ohio to Execute Inmate With Slower, One Dose Drug

Condemned Ohio killer Kenneth Biros could become the first person in the country put to death with one dose of an intravenous anesthetic if his execution proceeds.

The execution method to be used Tuesday replaces the faster-acting three-drug process and could propel other states to eventually consider the switch.

Proponents say the one-drug method ends arguments over unnecessary suffering during injection.

Experts agree Biros will likely die more than slowly than inmates put to death with the three-drug method, which includes a drug that stops the heart.

The 51-year-old Biros killed 22-year-old Tami Engstrom near Warren in 1991 after offering to drive her home from a bar, then scattered her body parts in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
