Coroner: Body of Woman Who Died of Overdose Preserved on Ice by Boyfriend for a Year

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

A coroner's report on a woman whose body was found packed on dry ice in a plastic container in a Newport Beach hotel this spring says the body was only "moderately decomposed" despite her being dead for nearly a year.

The final report on Monique Trepp, who officials have said died of a drug overdose, was issued Tuesday and said that the body showed no signs of physical trauma.

Trepp's frozen body was discovered in March in the hotel room of boyfriend Stephen David Royds, who later told police that he found Trepp dead a year before and kept her body on dry ice because there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Royds has pleaded not guilty to felony narcotics charges and is in jail awaiting trial.
