3 California Teens Charged With Posing as Cops, Trying to Pull Over Drivers

Published January 14, 2015

Associated Press

Three Central California teenagers are under arrest for allegedly impersonating police officers and trying to pull over drivers near Manteca.

Police say the three were arrested after motorists reported a pink Buick Century with flashing red and blue lights attempting to pull them over Tuesday night. In one case, one of the fake officers took the driver's license of a motorist back to his car, then returned it and allowed the motorist to leave.

Police later arrested 19-year-old John Meza, 18-year-old Alex Chavez and 18-year-old Gregori Martinez. They face charges of impersonating a police officer, false imprisonment and conspiracy.

Police spokesman Rex Osborn says the strobe light they used was an outdated version used by officers and may have been bought at a government auction or flea market.
