On Friday we unveiled these posters.
I always felt they would play a big role in the coming year, but I just wasn't sure how. But as this administration inexplicably saddles the country with more debt, more entitlement programs and even more spending, it's clear: What we are becoming is not who we are.
We've never been a nation that jams it through. We've never been a nation that believes in a free lunch. We've never been a nation that asks for a handout instead of a hand up.
This is who we are:
Hope: What other country on the planet — better yet, what other country in the history of this planet — has inspired so many people to risk life and limb to get there just for the chance at a better life? There's not even a guarantee. People don't take their families on a raft, through shark-infested waters, because they are searching for a handout.
You've heard it a million times: They are coming for the hope of a better life. They know that in America all you need is a dream and anything's possible. Last I checked no one is floating their way just at the chance to get into Cuba. Hope has always come from America.
How did it provide it?
Faith: Samuel Adams felt America was put together by divine providence — all of them did. They relied on it. God played an instrumental role; He was the one we had to have faith in. George Washington said: "It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor."
Charity: When there is an earthquake or tsunami, when there is hunger and poverty, there is no other country in history that has been more charitable than America. Name the country more giving and more generous than America. France? Spain? Germany?
Faith, hope and charity: They are the essential teachings of Christ.
I said something a long time ago — way back when I was still living in the "Marxism has been discredited, there's no one left who believes that" fantasy land — I said that America could never be destroyed from the outside. I remember the day I said it because it was Sept. 11, 2001. Militarily there is no equal. If the world tried to attack us and we decided we weren't going to bother with "smart" bombs, we'd control the world in a heartbeat. The only way to destroy America is from the inside: Collapse our system; bring us to our knees financially.
Little did I know there were people already on the inside who actually want to do just that. But who would want to attack hope? Or charity? Who doesn't want that? Who would attack faith? OK, they've been coming after that one for quite some time now:
• We can't sing Christmas carols anymore. Instead our kids learn about the wonders of the winter solstice
• Can't have those evil 10 Commandments on the courthouse steps: "Thou shalt not commit murder" is just so controversial.
• And of course, we can't have that offensive "God" word on my money
Who would spend time attacking these things? The overwhelming majority — religious or not — isn't really offended by the term "God," but the progressive left is. Funny, they are the same people attacking me (remember, I hate Jesus).
Progressives are fully aware that you must rot America from within in order to bring her down. It's been the plan the whole time: Make progress — baby steps — away from the Constitution. Why are we surprised by it now? And radical progressives are infecting America by deceiving unsuspecting people on their true intentions. We saw the defend education rallies. Who doesn't want to defend education? But spend 10 seconds browsing their site and you're suddenly in a Marxist hot-zone. They can't win people over to Marxism, so they resort to deception.
Back to the posters:
Why is George Washington hope? Because without the truth, it's false hope. President Obama is out there saying the worst is behind us:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted — immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Really? Because I was reading the news today and saw that America has moved "substantially closer" to losing its AAA status. And things will "further deteriorate" before they start stabilizing. I'm not understanding how that's better.
Everyone knows the worst is not behind us. It's not difficult to see the current spending is unsustainable. We are on the brink and this president has taken already bloated government and he's trying to make it even bigger. It's like the fat lady I read about today who weights like 700 pounds and she's actually trying to get to 1,000 pounds. That's her goal. Why would you do that unless you wanted to hurt yourself? It makes no sense. That's America right now, except the radicals aren't admitting it's the goal.
What happens when everything comes tumbling down? Where's the hope come from then? This hope promised the worst was behind us. Now it's an emergency. Can you trust him? Name the institutions, besides the military, you can trust. The Senate? Democrats? Republicans? The EPA? Is there anything you believe in?
Hope comes from a belief in something. How can you have any hope if they are rotting everything from the inside? The truth must be restored.
Charity: What was one of the first things Barack Obama did in office? He tried to take away tax incentives on charity. He wanted to teach us how to be charitable. Really? Americans need a lesson on charity? That's odd, because even though being one of the most-taxed nations on the planet, we are also — bar none — the most-giving country that ever existed. We don't need that taught to us; we've got that down, thanks. Although maybe Joe Biden could use a lesson, given that he only donated 0.003 percent of his income in 2007. I'll put the progressive George Soros against the conservative philanthropist Jon Huntsman any day. One will die powerful and the other one will die penniless because he's doing what he chooses to do.
They are taking charity and rotting it from the inside.
In the end this is the answer, but it's also the disease, because if you change these faces to these: Faith with Al Gore; hope with Barack Obama and charity with Nancy Pelosi.
Against health care? Well, you must be against Sally Jerkinsenberg who was born with no kneecaps and no eyelids. She's constantly falling and then the dust goes right in her eyes. Why do you hate her? We just want to give her the right to health care.
Don't let that be lost on you: They are asking you to have faith in them, not God. Faith in government to be the grantor of rights. Two days before we celebrate the real savior's birthday, listen to this from Tom Harkin:
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
SEN. TOM HARKIN, D-IOWA: What this bill does is we finally take that step. As our leader said earlier, we take that step from health care as a privilege to health care as an inalienable right of every single American citizen.
And as I said before, this bill is not complete. I've used the analogy of a starter home in which we can add additions and enhancements as we go into the future. But like every right that we've ever passed the American people, we revisit it later on to enhance and build on those rights.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
Tom, you don't have the power to grant people rights. You don't create them or enhance them. They are not yours. Let me show the Declaration of Independence: All men are created equal and endowed by their creator.
Who the hell do you think you are Congress? Last I checked you didn't create me. If you start depending on government to grant you rights, you've done two things: Turn the republic upside down and built handcuffs and a cage for you to live in. You will be completely slave to whatever the creator deems is best for "the collective."
What they are about to pass is not a tumor: You can try and cut this out but once this bill passes you won't be able to cut it out. It's a bloodstream disease; it's in our system — incurable. It's about to be in every cell of our bodies. That's why it's 2,300 pages filled with things like this on page 1557: Provisions for a "comparative effectiveness research" center in which panelists will have experience in a wide variety of areas, including "economics."
Wait, I thought the problem with health care in America was that it was all about money? This is a bean counter in Washington, one that you will be powerless over. They'll tell you what treatment you can and can't have.
America, this is the moment. The fundamental transformation of America is here.
I know you are busy. I know you have other things going on in your life. But I also know that this is still America. It was right before Christmas 1776, Washington had lost two thirds of his army. They were about to face a far superior army. They wanted to go home. Congress ran away. Washington's bold plan was to just go get them or be slaughtered. As everyone freaked out, Thomas Payne wrote in the follow-up to "Common Sense":
"These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: It is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated."
We're not tired. We're going to keep on fighting this thing. We know what this bill means and that it seeks to fundamentally transform America. We will fight it with everything in us — not with bullets, not with guns, but with faith, hope and charity.
