Changing His Tune

Republicans continue to point out that the stimulus has been unsuccessful at, well, stimulating the economy. This is not going over well with Prince Harry Reid, who issued this message to his friends across the aisle:

SEN. HARRY REID, D-N.V., SENATE MAJORITY LEADER: I warn them once again that this country has no place, no patience for those who root for failure.

I never expected such optimism from the man who back in 2007 had this to say about our efforts in Iraq:

Wow. It sounds like the old Harry could have learned a thing or two from the new Harry. Given his poll numbers back home it appears that this country really doesn't have patience for those who root for failure.

More Tax Troubles

Charlie Rangel's ouster as the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has opened up a can of worms for the Democratic Party.

First it was Representative Pete Stark. He lasted only 24 hours as Rangel's replacement due to concerns about his "temperament." And now his new replacement Michigan Congressman Sander Levin is facing issues of his own that are — surprise, surprise — tax-related.

Roll Call reported that Levin improperly received a $690 Maryland property tax credit that was issued for a home that Levin owns in the state but was intended only for "owner occupied properties." Unfortunately, Levin does not live in his Maryland home, he lives in Michigan. According to Roll Call, Representative Levin repaid the IRS on Friday.

So it appears that the Democrats have finally found a House Ways and Means Committee chairman. I know given their options it was a pretty difficult task.

A Little Off

When the president sent his budget to Congress he assured the nation that it was necessary to put the country back on the path to economic recovery. But it appears that once again the anointed one is engaging in some fuzzy math.

According to the AP, "The nonpartisan CBO predicts that Obama's budget plans would generate deficits over the upcoming decade that would total $9.8 trillion. That's $1.2 trillion more than predicted by the administration."

What's a $1.2 trillion error when you're dealing with our money?

Sowing Division

Division and discord in the Democratic Party are coming from an unexpected source. He was hired to help the president, but The Hill newspaper is reporting that White House Chief of Staff Rahm "Rahmbo Dead Fish" Emanuel is dividing the Democratic Party.

The Hill says that "Rahmbo" has become the "flash point" in arguments between liberals and centrists. Liberals, it seems, feel that realistic Rahm has been all too willing to give up on the issues like the public option, the government option and the closure of Gitmo.

And some of Rahm's opponents are closer than he may think. The Hill quotes one Democratic source who says that, "Some of those efforts to weaken Emanuel are coming from inside the building at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue."

Hey, "Rahmbo," better get some more dead fish ready. It sounds like you're going to be mailing them to friends at the White House real soon.
