Sky sources say the father of five-year-old British boy Sahil Saeed, who was snatched in Pakistan, got a phone call from kidnappers on Friday.

In a message lasting only seconds, the caller only told Sahil's father: "The boy is with us and we call you later".

An investigator told Sky News the father had received the call on his Pakistani mobile phone but caller ID had not been available and authorities were still trying to trace the call.

The source added that they did not have any helpful leads.

Sahil's mother has meanwhile made a tearful appeal for his return, three days after he was grabbed from his grandmother's home in the Punjab by a gang armed with guns and grenades.

Speaking from her Oldham home, Akila Naqqash broke down in tears as she begged for his release.

"My message is just that I want my son back," she said. "That's the main thing.
