The state of Texas has executed a Dallas-area man convicted of fatally shooting a Brazilian engineer.

Michael Sigala, 32 received a lethal injection Tuesday night for the August 2000 fatal shooting of 28-year-old Kleber Santos, whose job had brought him to Texas shortly after he was married. Santos' wife was also killed in the attack at their apartment in the Dallas suburb of Plano.

Sigala was charged with the wife's slaying but was not tried.

During his final statement, Sigala asked for forgiveness from relatives of the slain couple.

Sigala told them: "I have no reason for why I did it. I don't understand why I did it. I hope that you can live the rest of your lives without hate."

Sigala is the third prisoner in Texas to be put to death this year.
