A woman has been charged in Britain with the murder of her three-year-old daughter, who was found dead at a house containing a hazardous substance.
Iman Yousef — known locally as Niman Mohamood — was put in custody after a hearing at Sutton Magistrates' Court. She is due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.
The dead girl is believed to be three-year-old Alia Jama, but has not yet been formally identified by her family.
Yousef, 24, was arrested after the girl's body was discovered in Erdington, Birmingham, on Saturday.
Detectives say that extensive medical and forensic testing is continuing to establish the exact nature of the dangerous substance found at the Milverton Road property.
"The investigation continues apace today," a West Midlands Police spokeswoman said. "Detectives, forensic experts and local officers continue their quest to find out what happened to this little girl."
A post-mortem failed to ascertain the cause of Alia's death and officers are awaiting the results of toxicological and forensic tests.
