WOODBRIDGE, Va. – Police say a Virginia community college student's rifle jammed after firing two shots at a professor in a classroom full of students.
Police say 20-year-old Jason Hamilton was angry about his grades when he went to the school and fired the shots Tuesday afternoon. The professor ducked behind a desk and was not hit. No one was injured.
The bolt-action rifle apparently jammed as he tried to reload. Police say he had purchased the rifle just a day earlier from a Dick's Sporting Goods store near the Woodbridge campus of Northern Virginia Community College.
Hamilton was arraigned Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a school zone. He is being held without bond.
