A high school football player is hospitalized after taking a hard hit during a Thanksgiving Day football game.

The head coach for San Jose Academy's football team says Matt Blea is in critical condition after suffering from a hairline skull fracture that required surgery.

The hit occurred during a game against rival Lincoln High School.

The 16-year-old was the intended receiver of a pass when he was hit by an opposing player.

Witnesses say Blea was able to get up after the hit, but collapsed on the sideline moments later.
