The 52-year-old pilot of a small plane is dead and his passenger is in critical condition after a crash in upstate New York.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Jim Peters says the Piper Cherokee was found at around 1:30 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area four miles southwest of Dutchess County Airport. The pilot was apparently trying to land after reporting an oil pressure problem.

The Dutchess County sheriff's department says the pilot was Amir Tirosh of Bedford Hills, N.Y.

Fifty-three-year-old Daniel Bisk of Pleasantdale was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where spokesman David Billig says he's in critical condition.

The plane took off from Orange County Airport and was headed to Danbury, Conn.
