An Avon Park woman died after her sport utility vehicle struck a wild hog and flipped over.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office reports that 22-year-old Mandi L. Montanez was on her way to work Friday morning when the animal ran into the road. The passenger side of the vehicle hit the hog, and Montanez lost control. The SUV went airborne and began to roll, and Montanez was thrown out.

Montanez died at the scene. She did not appear to be wearing a seat belt.

Deputies say she was on the phone with her husband when the crash happened, and her husband found the crash scene.

The hog was killed in the collision.
