French police are conducting a nationwide search for a bank security driver after he vanished with $7.4 million from a bank in the central French city of Lyon.

Lyon prosecutor Xavier Richard says the 40-year-old suspect appears to have acted alone and prepared his escape in advance.

Police were on the lookout at airports Friday and French border points for the suspect, a single man with no children.

The driver had picked up the money Thursday at the Banque de France branch in Lyon with two other security workers. They then stopped at another bank and while the two other security workers were inside that bank, the driver made off with the cash.

Richard says the suspect's apartment was empty.
