Hunters searching for signs of deer in a wooded area inside the town limits of French Settlement, instead found the skeletal remains of a human.

Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies say numerous bones were scattered within a 50-yard radius, about 150 yards off Hwy 42. Clothing, including a pair of cargo shorts and a pair of black, Skechers low-quarter shoes, and a key chain with a Chrysler vehicle key attached were also discovered.

The sheriff's office reported Wednesday that the bones and other evidence were found Halloween day. Forensic anthropologist Mary Manhein and her assistant from the LSU FACES lab said the bones are those of a white male, about 38 to 48 years old. The remains could have been in the woods between six to 18 months.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers or the parish sheriff's office.
