A boy found hanged in woods accidentally killed himself after he became tangled in a rope swing, police told Sky News.

Officers are treating the death of the 10-year-old as a "tragic accident," although the circumstances of how he died are still being investigated.

The school boy had been playing on ropes hanging from trees in Hutton Woods, near Boosbeck, Great Britain, on Saturday night, when police were called to the scene.

"This is an absolute tragedy," said Detective Constable Dave Thomas.

"Many youngsters go out into woodland and swing from ropes that have been hanging from trees.

"Unfortunately, on this occasion it would appear that the boy got himself tangled and sadly died as a result of this.

"It is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with his family."
