INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis man has been convicted in the 2006 murders of seven members of one family, including three children.
Marion Superior Court Judge Robert Altice issued the guilty verdict Thursday at the conclusion of the trial of 31-year-old Desmond Turner.
Turner waived his right to a jury trial in exchange for prosecutors dropping their request for the death penalty. He could face life without parole at his sentencing hearing Friday.
Prosecutors alleged Turner was the main triggerman in one of the worst mass murders in Indianapolis history. They say he and another man invaded the home because they believed it contained a safe full of money and drugs.
Defense attorneys said prosecutors lacked physical evidence tying Turner to the scene.
