Indiana’s Attorney General wants to yank the license of a doctor who allegedly prescribed 93,000 prescriptions in just three and a half years – with the majority of them being narcotics.
Dr. Philip Foley is linked to nine overdose deaths that were reportedly caused by drugs he prescribed, Fox59 reported. Attorney General, Greg Zoeller described the doctor as a "clear and immediate danger to public health and safety."
Zoeller said if his license isn't revoked even more people could die.
"These kinds of prescriptions are dangerous and they need to be dealt with very cautiously," Abigail Kuzma, who was appointed as the state’s consumer advocate, told the news station.
Kuzma added that Foley failed to conduct physical exams before prescribing medication and continued to prescribe narcotics after patients overdosed.
"When people are overdosing that's a very serious matter everyone should be concerned," she said.
At a hearing scheduled for Thursday, the Indiana Medical Licensing Board along with the Attorney General’s office will consider suspending Foley's medical license for 90 days.
