A Cirque du Soleil performer has died after falling off a trampoline during a training session in Montreal.

Cirque du Soleil said Saturday Oleksandr Zhurov died in a Montreal hospital Saturday a day after falling off the trampoline.

The company said the 24-year-old Ukrainian performer was doing general training exercises for the world-famous circus when the incident happened at their training center. He joined the company a few months ago.

Cirque founder Guy Laliberte says he's deeply saddened by the death of the artist.

A coroner's inquiry on the circumstances of the accident is under way. Cirque said it will cooperate fully with the investigation.
