A Hollywood High School football player has died a day after collapsing during a game.

Los Angeles Unified School District spokeswoman Ellen Morgan says the boy from the school's freshman-sophomore team died Saturday afternoon at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.

Witnesses say the boy had just carried the ball with about two minutes left in a game against West Adams Preparatory High School on Friday when he collapsed while jogging to the sideline.

He was taken off the field and rushed to the hospital by paramedics. The boy's name and the details of his injury were not immediately released.

Morgan says grief counselors were available to teammates Saturday and would be at the school for students on Monday.
