Police in southern Indiana are looking for a wedding crasher who took off with a wire bird cage that held cards for the couple filled with cash, checks and gift cards.

Witnesses said a man wearing a T-shirt and ball cap showed up Saturday night at the wedding reception for Aaron and Margaret Thompson Brown at the American Legion in Seymour.

Assistant Police Chief Craig Hayes said no one knows who the man was.

The bride's mother, Joyce Thompson, estimates the thief got away with about $5,000 and calls it "a low-life thing to do."

Margaret Thompson Brown told The Tribune she's upset that the theft marred her wedding day, but she is trying to remember the good times everyone had.

A collection taken up by guests to replace some of the stolen money raised about $500.
