SECAUCUS, N.J. – New Jersey State Police have taken two people into custody on the New Jersey Turnpike after a nearly 100-mile pursuit across northern New Jersey.
The suspects' Toyota Camry was halted by traffic at the Secaucus toll plaza, about five miles west of New York City, around 9:20 a.m. Monday.
Troopers swarmed the male driver as he tried to exit the vehicle. A female passenger also was taken into custody.
State police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Jones says the pursuit began as a routine vehicle stop shortly after 8 a.m. on the northbound Western Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike in East Rutherford.
The driver took off and the pursuit continued west on Interstate 80, then back east on I-80 to the turnpike southbound.
Jones says several items tossed from the car along the route were found to contain small amounts of drugs.
