DALLAS – A grand jury in Dallas has indicted a couple accused of keeping the woman's three young children starving in a hotel bathroom for at least nine months.
A prosecutor says 30-year-old Abneris Santiago and her boyfriend, 37-year-old Alfred Santiago, were each indicted Wednesday on three charges of first-degree injury to a child.
The charge carries a sentence of five years to life in prison.
Alfred Santiago also was charged with continuous sexual abuse, which carries a minimum 25-year prison sentence.
Police found the children emaciated and filthy in the hotel bathroom in July. A doctor said the children appeared to have been starved and that their condition was life-threatening.
