The trial of a former University of Alabama at Huntsville professor accused of killing his wife and dumping her body in the Tennessee River in 2006 is set to begin.

The 48-year-old physics professor Andrew Pakhomov is scheduled to appear before Circuit Judge Sherrie Paler Monday. He's accused of killing Yelena Zakin in May 2006.

Fishermen found Zakin's body June 1, 2006 in the river's boat docks in Decatur. A bag of rocks had been tied around her neck.

Pakhomov has since remarried and pleaded not guilty when police arrested him after a five-week investigation.

Police believe Zakin was killed two days after she walked in on Pakhomov with a young female research assistant in his UAH office. She was arrested for domestic assault after the incident.
