A suspected gunman is dead following a police shootout that left a Michigan officer hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his side.
Cpl. Thomas Murphy, a South Rockwood police officer, was shot just after 10:30 a.m. Monday in the quiet, residential Michigan neighborhood, according to the Detroit Free Press.
WWJ-AM says the officer was airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. He is currently in stable condition, the Press reported.
According to neighbors, there were several EMS units on the scene Monday morning and police were traveling door to door in search of a suspect.
Residents were told to stay indoors as area police warned them of a barricaded gunman in the neighborhood.
Around 12 p.m. EDT, SWAT team members reportedly broke a window and threw tear gas into a home in an attempt to force the alleged gunman out. Police later foung the suspect dead in the home, according to multiple local reports.
A Monroe Country Sherriff's spokeswoman told FOX News that the office would not be releasing any additional information about the shooting.
