Police say a 14-year-old girl spent 10 days in the Dallas County Jail after lying about her age.

She is the second of two girls arrested together last month to serve time alongside adult offenders.

Police said Monday that the 14-year-old was arrested along with a 13-year-old, who spent nearly two weeks in jail after giving police a false name that made them think she was 17.

They both pleaded guilty to shoplifting charges after trying to steal lingerie from Target. Police say the girls are runaways.

Jail records show the older girl, who claimed she was 20, was released July 20. Police now say she lied about her last name and age.

Police are investigating whether the arresting officer followed protocol in trying to confirm their identities.
