MONITOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Police in Michigan say a man resisted arrest and used his 5-month-old niece as a shield — threatening to break her neck — before he was Tasered.
Authorities in Bay County's Monitor Township say 26-year-old Jose Garcia of Edcouch, Texas, was sitting in a vehicle and holding the baby when they responded to a retail fraud complaint Wednesday night.
Police told The Bay City Times that Garcia, who is wanted in Texas and Michigan, said, "I will kill this baby, I will break its neck."
Deputies said they used the Taser after several attempts to extricate the child. She was not hurt.
Garcia faces charges including unlawful imprisonment, resisting and obstructing police and second-degree child abuse. Officials did not immediately know if he had a lawyer.
