The wife of a man who was killed last week in a suburban New York hotel told police in 2002 he often hit her and once broke her nose.

According to a police report on an incident at their Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home, Narcisa Novack said she and Ben Novack Jr. "had a very violent past together."

The 53-year-old Ben Novack was beaten to death July 12 in the couple's room at the Hilton Rye Town in Rye Brook. His wife told police she went to the room after breakfast and found him dead.

Police have said she isn't a suspect. They didn't respond Tuesday to questions about the case.

The wife's Manhattan lawyer, Howard Tanner, says she had nothing to do with the killing.

Ben Novack was the son of the founder of Miami Beach's famous Fontainebleau Hotel shown in the movie "Scarface."
