Two people have been injured in an explosion at a factory in Chicago that sent bricks and debris flying hundreds of feet in the air.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says the 9 a.m. explosion seriously damaged the one-story building.

He says the two injured people were workers at the factory, and one of them is in serious condition.

Langford says Friday's explosion appears to have been caused by a mixing of chemicals, but he didn't have any other information.

He says the fire department hazardous team is trying to determine what chemicals were involved before they enter the building to investigate.

Langford also says some people in the neighborhood are complaining about minor respiratory problems that may be related to the explosion.
