A suspected rabid fox attacked a 76-year-old woman and went after a man who tried to help her, forcing a Worcester police officer to shoot the animal.

The Telegram & Gazette reported Wednesday that Robert Ford and a colleague were working outside a nearby home when they heard Wenyu Chen scream. They later saw a fox hang by her arm, with blood dripping from all over her body.

The fox bit Ford in the leg after he ran to help the victim. A police officer shot the animal that was later euthanized and sent to a laboratory for testing.

Chen was hospitalized and Ford was treated and released.

The fox previously snatched lunch from a boy standing outside with his father, attacked a cat and chased an elderly man into his home.
