A study that shows how aging affects the memory determined seniors in America are ‘smarter’ than their British counterparts, New Scientist reported.
The study was led by Kenneth Langa of the University of Michigan. It looked at more than 8,000 Americans over the age of 65 and more than 5,000 Britons over the age of 65. They were given memory tests, in which the Americans outscored the British by an average of 1.4 points.
Langa said he thinks the Americans scored higher in the cognitive tests because they reached higher levels of education, had more financial stability and were less likely to be depressed.
