Carrie Prejean caused considerable controversy at the 2009 Miss USA pageant when she voiced her opinion against legalizing same-sex marriage, but a source says pageant officials are insisting the 22-year-old lost her coveted crown on Wednesday because of a failure to fulfill her duties as Miss California, not because of her moral convictions.

The source tells FOXNews.com that the tensions between Prejean and the Miss California directors Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler were escalating even before the Donald Trump-owned pageant took place in Las Vegas.

"Once Carrie got all she needed from the sponsors, she told them off and said she didn't need or want their help anymore," revealed the insider. "But they continued to support her, and even bought her a boob job because she said she wanted one.”

After finishing as runner-up at the Miss USA pageant, Prejean then made a number of appearances unauthorized by the state pageant team, says the source, thus violating her contract, which states: “I shall not consent to any publicity without the prior written approval from Miss Universe or, until the succeeding year’s state pageant in the State, you.”

The controversy surrounding Prejean's gay marriage comments, coupled with her alleged breach of contract and the release of racy photographs, led to a May 12 press conference in which Donald Trump officially announced that Prejean could keep her crown and she promised to honor her title.

However, the source said that her attitude didn’t change after the announcement, and that she would “run to Donald Trump immediately if she didn’t get her way.”

FOXNews.com has exclusively obtained an email transcript between Prejean and director Keith Lewis from May 29, 2009 in which the beauty queen seems hesitant to cooperate with proposed engagements.

“I expect you to be forwarding me ALL email requests and interview requests to me. I know how you are and it’s not right if you are selecting things for me. Thanks for your cooperation,” she wrote. “And fyi I am a presenter of medals at the special olympics in a few weeks for the summer games. So now u know I am doing this and I expect your full support. Also I was asked to fill in for a dj on a local radio show.. Ill be reading from a show biz script monday. I am doing this.”

When asked to go through the proper proctol and provide details so events could be set in a master calendar, Prejean responded: “You do not cooperate with me, and you pick and chose the things YOU want me to do. That is not happening anymore. Stop speaking for me. I have MY own voice. What are u gonna do fire me for volunteering for the special olympics hahaha ur crazy No I am doing this appearance. You do not need details. Its for the SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!! You just need to know I will be doing it alright,” before insisting that Miss California officials provide “full security as per her request.”
