O'Fallon police are investigating the death of a nun who was hit outside a suburban St. Louis church. A second nun was injured.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports on its Web site Sunday that one of the nuns died after the crash Friday night outside the Assumption Catholic Church in O'Fallon. The other nun was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

O'Fallon police refused to provide identities of those involved in the crash. But a spokeswoman for the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood identified the nuns as Sister Elaine Lamm, 64, who was killed, and Sister Marie Frances Wiederholt, 81, who was seriously injured. Wiederholt was in fair condition Sunday.

Officials said the nuns were struck before midnight after stepping off a tour bus in front of the church. Police said the investigation was continuing.
