Authorities are charging a Cornell University graduate student with murder in the death of his wife.

Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson says 24-year-old Blazej Kot is charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of 28-year-old Caroline Coffey.

The bio-medicine researcher at the Ivy League school was found in a local park with her throat slashed.

Police say Kot tried to kill himself as he was taken into custody late Tuesday. He's in stable condition and under guard Friday at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

It could not immediately be learned if Kot has a lawyer.

Hikers found Coffey's body Wednesday morning along a wooded trail in Taughannock Falls State Park, a short distance from the couple's home in Ithaca.
