A jury has convicted a Michigan man of murder in the deaths of four people whose bodies were found inside a burned-out home.

A jury on Thursday found Troy Brake guilty on four counts of first-degree murder and three firearm counts.

The Grant man faces a mandatory life sentence at his July 6 sentencing.

Police say Brake beat 18-year-old Katherine Brown to death and fatally shot 53-year-old Sharmaine Zimmer, her 20-year-old son Jeremy and her 17-year-old son Tyler.

They were found inside the Zimmers' burned home in Ottawa County's Wright Township, near Grand Rapids.

Defense attorney Paul McDonagh had told jurors Brake was identified by police investigators as a convenient suspect. He plans to appeal.
