Actor Gerard Butler has been charged with misdemeanor criminal battery in connection to an altercation with a photographer last year.

The “300” actor, 39, is accused of punching a paparazzo several times in the lip at the Crown Bar in Los Angeles.

The incident, which took place on October 7, followed a premiere party for Butler’s “RockNRolla.”

The L.A. City Attorney filed the charges May 13.

Butler's manager, Alan Siegel, said that the actor was forced to have his driver stop the car after a paparazzo repeatedly sped through red lights and almost struck two pedestrians.Butler is due to be arraigned on June 10. If convicted, he could face up to 6 months in jail.

The actor's attorney, Blair Berk, said Butler is not required to - and won't - appear in court on the charge.
