A car has smashed into the front of a liquor store in Compton, killing a woman and injuring two other people.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Ulysses Cruz says the driver was questioned and released after the car came to a stop almost completely inside the store on Monday afternoon.

Cruz says detectives are investigating what caused the crash in the city south of Los Angeles but have determined alcohol was not a factor.

It's not clear if the victims were pedestrians or customers in the store.

Cruz did not know the conditions of the two injured people.
